HWL EBSWORTH —
DATA BREACH
1339. Hon WILSON TUCKER to the minister representing the
Treasurer:
I
refer to the recent data breach of law firm HWL Ebsworth, of which the Insurance
Commission of Western Australia is a client. It has been more than six
months since the data breach occurred.
(1) Was any data relating to
Insurance Commission of WA claims amongst the data stolen?
(2) If yes to (1), is any of that
data considered personal information?
(3) If yes to (2), have the impacted
parties been notified?
(4) Has the data breach had an
impact on the progress of any claims; and, if so, what?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. I provide this answer on behalf of the Treasurer.
(1)–(4) After
becoming aware that some of its clients' personal information had been
compromised in the HWL Ebsworth breach, the
Insurance Commission wrote to affected clients. A small number of additional parties have subsequently been identified in a further dataset provided by HWL
Ebsworth. Notifications to these additional parties are currently being
prepared.
