I refer the Premier to the pay claim for electorate office staff. Although I recognise that electorate officers come under the responsibility of the Presiding Officers, their salaries are administered through the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. (1) Given that the pay rise was approved by the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission on 28 July 2004, will the Premier advise when electorate officers will receive their pay increase, which I understand will be backdated to February 2004? (2) Will the Premier confirm that Labor members’ electorate offices are permitted to close for one afternoon a week; and, if so, is this to offset the delay in staff receiving their pay rise? (3) When will the Premier bite the bullet and ensure that all electorate entitlements are administered independently through the Parliament, rather than through the Department of the Premier and Cabinet?
