KENWICK
TRAIN STATION
224. Hon SAMANTHA ROWE to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
(1) Why does
Kenwick train station have to close for upgrades?
(2) Why can
the station not stay open in the same way that Maddington or Beckenham train
stations did during their upgrades?
(3) What are
the specific differences between the upgrade of Kenwick station and those of
Maddington or Beckenham train stations?
(4) How long
will Kenwick train station be closed?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of this question.
(1) The design
review identified significant savings in time and cost by closing the station.
(2)–(3)
Upgrades to Kenwick station include the replacement of the entire electrical
and communications system cabling and cable containment on the station
platforms. Accordingly, the Public Transport Authority deemed that allowing
passengers access to the station during the upgrade works would cause a
significant operational and safety issue and therefore the closure of the
station was considered the most appropriate course of action.
(4) The
station will be closed for approximately four months.
