DROUGHT ASSISTANCE
In July the parliamentary secretary represented the Minister for Agriculture and Food at a drought crisis meeting in Mullewa. At this meeting the parliamentary secretary promised that his government would take urgent action. On 27 July the parliamentary secretary was reported to have said that such action would be early and flexible. In view of the continuing serious drought situation in the northern wheatbelt, and the fact that many families involved in farming and other business in these communities are facing extreme economic personal hardship, I ask - (1) Has the Minister for Agriculture and Food made a decision on the Dry Seasons Advisory Committee’s recommendations to the minister on assistance packages for drought-affected communities? (2) Can the parliamentary secretary inform the house of the specific drought assistance that the government will provide for the people who are suffering badly in these areas? Mr M.P. WHITELY
