NEW METRORAIL - STATIONS
I refer to my question asked on Tuesday, 4 September 2007 about the southern suburbs rail project, and now ask: have the platforms at the new stations all been satisfactorily constructed, particularly in regard to the gradients, angles or levels of the platforms; if not, what is the nature and extent of the deficiency? Hon ADELE FARINA

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. All platforms have been built in accordance with the designs and specifications. All platforms have been, or are to be, surveyed to ensure that the gradient of the platform edge matches the gradient of the adjacent track. The platform is 1 085 millimetres above the top of the rail. The clearance to the edge of the train is 40 millimetres. The level, slope and treatment of the edge safety zone and the general area of each platform have been achieved. All platforms have been, or are to be, subject to a separate access audit to verify that the construction has been done in accordance with the special access requirements. If any deficiencies are discovered in the survey or the access audit, the deficiencies will be required to be immediately rectified.
