BANKSIA ROAD WASTE
FACILITY
1065. Hon RICK MAZZA to the Minister for Environment:
I refer to a constituent's
freedom of information application requesting details of all Wren Oil waste
products that are dumped at the Banksia Road landfill in Dardanup being refused
by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation due to a current
investigation taking place.
(1) What is the nature of the
current investigation DWER refers to?
(2) What is the
estimated total volume capacity of refuse and the project life of the Dardanup
landfill site?
(3) What
processes are currently in place to help mitigate dust, odour and fire at the
site, which have been raised as concerns by Dardanup residents?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some
notice of the question.
(1) I am advised
that the investigation by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation
relates to compliance with current licence conditions at the Banksia Road
putrescible landfill.
(2) In 2019, the
licence holder reported an estimated remaining capacity of 887 233 cubic
metres. The licence holder is currently operating cells 6 and 7 and has
approval to construct cell 8. The current licence L8904/2015/1 expires on 2
August 2035.
(3) The premises are subject to conditions through
licence L8904/2015/1, which regulates dust, odour and fire risk. DWER monitors compliance with licence
conditions. Community members concerned with emissions can report them
through the department's Pollution Watch hotline on 1300 784 782.
