❓ Hon Rob Horstman inquired about the Department of Communities' register of pre-approved evacuation centres, their number, reassessment frequency, and the public availability of this schedule. The Minister confirmed the existence of 418 centres, periodic assessments, and explained that the full list is not publicly released due to ongoing assessments and potential impact on emergency response.

I thank the member
for some notice of the question, noting that it was originally directed to the
Department of Fire and Emergency Services but has been redirected to me, so
this in the context of the Department of Communities, not DFES.
(1) Yes.
(2) There are 418.
(3) The Department of Communities
undertakes periodic assessments of approved evacuation centres. This is
undertaken in consultation with local governments in alignment with the State
Emergency Management Arrangements.
(4) The full record of approved
evacuation centres is currently undergoing an assessment to support
preparedness for the 2026–27 high-threat season and may be subject to change.
Accordingly, public release of the full record may impact effective emergency
response and community safety, and therefore it is not made publicly available
in its entirety. Specific location-based information on pre-identified centres
can be provided upon request. During an emergency event, if an evacuation
centre is established, the details of the evacuation centre or centres are
publicly communicated by Emergency WA.
