377. Hon Steve Martin to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister
for Transport:
I refer to the
government's proposed Swan River ferry service expansion.
(1) What research, internal reports or other work has
been conducted to determine potential demand for the ferry expansion?
(2) Can the results of the work to determine
potential demand be tabled?
(3) What are the average weekday use projections for
the following proposed boarding locations: Applecross and Matilda Bay?
(4) How do the figures in (3) compare with
existing Transperth ferry patronage at Barrack Street and South Perth?
(5) When will public consultation take place
regarding the areas where jetty construction is planned?
(6) When will environmental impact assessments be
undertaken and will they be made public?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question and provide the following
answer on behalf of the Minister for Transport.
(1)–(6) The Metronet on Swan project will
deliver a much-anticipated expansion of Perth's ferry network. Patronage on our
existing ferry service has grown significantly in recent years and there is
strong support for services to and from Applecross and the University of
Western Australia. The Public Transport Authority and the Department of
Transport have undertaken 19 consultation sessions with relevant stakeholders.
A further workshop will be undertaken shortly with Matilda Bay user groups to
discuss how we can work collaboratively to develop the right controls and
measures so that everyone can safely share the waterway.
