FIRE AND EMERGENCY
SERVICES — TECHNICIANS
25. Hon
Dr BRIAN WALKER to the Minister for Emergency Services:
I refer the minister to the
bushfire emergency that occurred in parts of Henderson, Hope Valley, Naval Base
and Wattleup on Saturday, 17 December.
(1) How many units attended; and,
of those, how many, if any, suffered technical issues?
(2) How many
technicians does the Department of Fire and Emergency Services employ who are
qualified to resolve a total power failure if and when it occurs to a fire
appliance, and how many were on call on 17 December?
(3) Were there any other incidents that required a technician's
attendance on that day; and, if so, at what locations?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) There were 97 response appliances that attended
the Henderson incident on 17 December 2022. One technical issue was
reported.
(2) DFES currently has five FTE mechanical technicians
and one FTE auto electrician employed. A technician was on call on 17 December 2022. This is in
addition to our other fleet service partners, which also provide additional on-call support for DFES appliances.
(3) Three appliance faults were reported at Malaga,
Darlington and Baldivis that required a DFES technician's attendance on 17 December 2022.
