I refer to the Port Hedland enhancement scheme development plan. (1) Is the minister aware that the Pilbara Development Commission intends to advertise for tenders to undertake works on the enhancement scheme within the next two weeks? (2) Is the minister aware that the PDC has not yet sought state or commonwealth environmental impact assessments on these proposals? (3) Can the minister outline how the Pilbara Development Commission can be tendering for works before it has been assessed to determine whether these proposals are environmentally acceptable? (4) Will the minister direct the PDC to delay letting such tenders until the environmental impacts of the proposals have been assessed? (5) If no to (4), why not? Hon JON FORD

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The Pilbara Development Commission and the project manager for the expressions of interest and tender processes will not put the project out to tender until all clearances required by the Environmental Protection Authority have been obtained. (2) The Department of Housing and Works is working through the process of any requirements needed to obtain environmental clearances for affected elements of stage 1 of the Port Hedland enhancement scheme. (3)-(5) Not applicable.
