Family and domestic violence
523. Hon Simon Ehrenfeld to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I refer to recent WA
police statistics revealing record high levels of family and domestic violence
in 2024–25, including assaults up 72% and breaches of violence
restraining orders up 80% since 2015–16, and the police minister's
public statement on the issue, as reported in The
West Australian of 8 August 2025, where he said:
… when you ask for victims to
come forward, inevitably, you're going to have more reporting of incidents.
(1) Does the Premier stand by the police
minister's statement?
(2) Does the Premier believe there has been a
significant increase in the number of family and domestic violence incidents
since the election of the state Labor government in 2017?
The President: I think there might be an opinion in
there, but I give the call to the Leader of the House.
Hon Stephen Dawson
