JUDICIAL COMMISSION
914. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Attorney General:
I thank the Attorney General for his
response to my question asked on 13 August 2024 about the establishment of a judicial
commission. I ask the following question to better understand the processes
currently underway.
(1) Is the
Attorney General able to confirm the following statement made by the president
of the Law Society of Western Australia in The West Australian of 17 July
this year —
Late last year, the Law Society wrote
to Attorney-General John Quigley seeking meaningful consultation about the
relevant draft legislation.
(2) What response
has the Attorney General provided to the Law Society; has it been invited to
contribute a further submission as part of the process toward the establishment
of a commission?
(3) If no to (2),
why not?
