I refer to an article in the West Australian , published on July 12, 2014, which raises the possibility that a map by early settler George Fletcher Moore shows that Yagan’s grave is near the junction of the Swan River and Ellen Brook, and not near the site of the Yagan memorial park on West Swan Road in Belhus, and ask has the Minister sought any advice as a result of this article, and: (a) if yes, what was the advice sought and received; and (b) if no, why not?

(a) - (b) I am not aware of any new information regarding this matter. In 2000, the Aboriginal Affairs Department (as it was known) investigated the matter and concluded that the Moore's map was not properly surveyed and, as such, it was impossible to accurately plot a small geographic feature such as a gravesite. As a result of these conclusions I have not needed to seek further advice following the publication of this article.
