731. Ms ANWYL to the Minister for Health:
I refer to the answer to question on notice No. 239 of 2000 and ask -
(a) what is the nature of the review;
(b) who will sit on the review;
(c) what is the involvement of the Office of Aboriginal Health in relation to the issue of funding and/or the review;
(d) is any member of the Office of Aboriginal Health involved in sitting on or in any other way connected to the review; and
(e) given that the answer was provided on 5 September 2000, does the Minister consider it reasonable that the two employed paediatricians remain in Kalgoorlie/Boulder on the off chance they might receive ongoing employment at the Rural Paediatric Unit?

The Minister Replied:
I am advised that:
(a) The independent assessment of this pilot project will examine and report on how successful the Rural Academic Paediatric Unit has been in achieving its contracted objectives; any other successful outcomes of the Unit; and any other relevant matters.
(b) The assessment will be undertaken by consultants external to the Health Department of Western Australia.
(c) The Review is being funded by the Office of Aboriginal Health.
(d) The Review will be managed by a steering committee comprising officers of the Health Department's General Health Purchasing Division and Office of Aboriginal Health.
(e) Funding is being made available to the University of WA to fund operations until December 2000. The results of the review should be known before further arrangements are put in place.
