GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE
1161. Hon DARREN WEST to the Minister for
Agriculture and Food:
(1) What state
government assistance has been offered to dairy farmers who have had milk
supply contracts terminated?
(2) What federal government
assistance has been provided to affected dairy farmers?
(3) Has the
federal government offered to subsidise freight to bring milk from other states
to Western Australia?
(4) Is any cheese currently being
produced in Brunswick and Western Australia?
(5) Are any
environmental issues preventing the production of cheese in WA; and, if yes,
what are those environmental issues?

government has offered to provide free veterinarian advice to the affected
farmers, as well as advice regarding the safe disposal of any excess milk on or
off farm if required.
(2)–(3) These
questions need to be referred to the federal government.
(4) Yes.
(5) Until the
specifics of any proposal are known, it is not possible to respond to this
question. It would be more appropriate to refer this matter to the Minister for
Environment.
