DISABILITY — EVIDENCE LAWS
87. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the
Minister for Disability Services:
(1) Is the
minister aware of a recent Australian Human Rights Commission report that shows
that people with disabilities who are the victims of a crime, accused of a
crime or witnesses to a crime do not enjoy equality before the law?
(2) If so, did
the minister note the call for Western Australia and other states to develop a
holistic, overarching response to remove the barriers that result in people
with disabilities being at increased risk of being disrespected and disbelieved
and of not enjoying equality before the law?
(3) Does the
minister agree that WA needs to take steps to remove these injustices; and, if
not, why not?
(4) If yes to
(3), what changes is the minister recommending and when will they be made?
