OAKAJEE PORT AGREEMENT
I have a supplementary question. Why is the Premier personally setting such a low standard for his government by failing to abide by his lawful requirements as a minister to notify the Auditor General and table that notification in Parliament? The Premier’s party supported this law when it went through Parliament, and as the leader of the government he is refusing to abide by his legal requirements—very poor! Mr C.J. BARNETT

The Leader of the Opposition prefaced that question by accusing me of setting a low standard for this government. Do I need to remind him of his party’s record in government? Mr E.S. Ripper : I need to remind you of your legal obligations. Mr C.J. BARNETT : Does anyone need to remind the people of Western Australia of the Labor Party’s record in government? What was it that it lost; five ministers? Several members interjected. Mr C.J. BARNETT : Labor Party members still do not get it. They still do not understand why they lost the election. They think it was a fluke. They think it was an accident. They think it was never meant to happen. What they never understood and what they still do not understand is that the people of Western Australia were embarrassed by the Labor government. Mr E.S. Ripper interjected. Mr C.J. Mr E.S. Ripper : What about your bloke over there! Mr C.J. BARNETT : The opposition’s performance this morning with the member for Collie–Preston getting up with a bit of paper necklace and walking across the chamber, Mr Speaker, was an absolute abomination. Mr E.S. Ripper interjected. Mr C.J. BARNETT : Mr Speaker, in my view — Mr M.P. Murray : Beep, beep, beep! Mr C.J. BARNETT : It says it all, Mr Speaker! The member for Collie–Preston is a frontbencher for the Labor Party. He is the new look of the Labor Party in Western Australia! Give us more of him!
