(a-b) The Department of Communities provides funding to the following peak bodies under the Child Protection portfolio:
Organisation Name
2019-20 Annual Funding Level (ex GST)
Women's Council for Domestic and Family Violence Services (WA) Inc.
$410,000.00
Foster Care Association of Western Australia (Inc.)
$627,838.17
Create Foundation Limited
$527,010.29
The Family Inclusion Network of Western Australia Inc.
$613,259.79
Peak advocacy bodies are defined as:
A representative community sector organisation whose membership predominantly consists of other (legally unrelated) organisations, groups, and/or individuals of allied interests, which is recognised by other peaks and their sectors, as a representative of the whole of their sector.
Peak advocacy bodies provide a strong voice and coordinating functions on behalf of the sector they are recognised to represent.
While not technically peak bodies under this definition, the Department of Communities provides funding to the Foster Care Association of Western Australia (Inc.), Create Foundation Limited, and The Family Inclusion Network of Western Australia Inc.
As part of its service contracting reform, the Department is transitioning peak advocacy bodies into the Sector Support, Development and Advocacy program.
The Women’s Council is considered to be within the Minister for Child Protection’s portfolio as their current Service Agreement is procured under the Children and Community Services Act 2004 under the former Department of Child Protection and Family Support . The Department of Communities is working alongside the Women’s Council to transition to the Sector Support, Development and Advocacy program.
