Hon COLIN TINCKNELL : Yes,
thank you, Madam President; this is on behalf of Hon Robin Scott.
I
refer to the new goldfields step-up, step-down facility based in Kalgoorlie and
reports that the contract for operation of the facility has been awarded
to a company that has headquarters in Victoria.
(1) Can the
minister confirm that the contract for the operation of the facility has been
awarded?
(2) If so, why
was the contract awarded to a company that has headquarters in Victoria, as
opposed to a local goldfields or Western Australian company?

(1) Yes.
(2) The Mental
Health Commission sought a suitably skilled and experienced organisation to
operate the service. Neami National was evaluated as the successful respondent
to deliver the Kalgoorlie step-up, step-down service. Neami National has
successfully operated the 22-bed step-up, step-down service in Joondalup since 2013, as well as the first
regional six-bed step-up, step-down service in Albany since 2018.
