424. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the Leader of the House representing
the Minister for Education:
I refer to prayer
rooms within the public school system.
(1) How many
schools within the public school system have prayer rooms?
(2) With respect
to (1), which schools?
(3) Does the
Department of Education provide any policy guidance or practical support to
school principals in respect of the safe operation of these prayer rooms—for
example, are these rooms made available to students of all faith backgrounds;
are they accessible to both sexes; and is supervised guidance or religious
instruction provided?
(4) If yes to
(3), please table the above.
(5) If no to (3),
can the minister please explain the absence of such a policy or program of
support?
