The $2.5 million allocated to the Kalgoorlie Sun Farm has not yet been spent. Submission of a funding proposal for the Sun Farm by the project proponent was substantially delayed. The proposal was made 18 months after the Government's funding commitment was announced. The project is dependent on funding being provided through the Commonwealth's Renewable Remote Power Generation Program, in addition to the funding committed by the State Government. The Sustainable Energy Development Office has developed a proposal seeking Commonwealth funding for the project. The proponent also needs to obtain all necessary approvals, finalise a power purchase agreement with the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder (or another party) and achieve financial closure on the project before it can commence construction.
