INFRINGEMENT MANAGEMENT OFFICE
I refer to current plans to privatise the infringement management office. (1) How much does it cost to operate the infringement management office? (2) What is the expected cost of the outsourcing? (3) Is the planned 350 per cent increase in the number of Multanova speed cameras related to the planned outsourcing of the infringement management office/process? (4) Have police concerns about potential corruption of the infringement process been properly addressed in the current proposal? (5) When is a decision on whether to proceed with outsourcing of the infringement management office going to be made? Hon JON FORD

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1)-(5) The proposal suggested by Western Australia Police to outsource the infringement management office has now become part of the information being considered by the Office of Road Safety’s enhanced speed enforcement steering committee. The committee is currently working on a whole-of-government recommendation on the future of speed enforcement in Western Australia. The committee is looking at all aspects of enhanced speed enforcement, including enforcement by police officers, infringement management, operational structures and speed camera technology, including fixed speed cameras and speed/red light cameras at intersections. Whether or not to partially contract out camera services would be among considerations with a new operational structure and would be considered only after receipt of the report. I am awaiting the committee’s report and will consider it in due course.
