ROE HIGHWAY STAGE 8 EXTENSION — ELECTION
COMMITMENTS
604. Mr M. McGOWAN to the
Premier:
I have a supplementary question. By committing to Roe Highway
stage 8 during two separate elections, has the Premier not now deceived voters
one too many times for them to believe anything he says?

We went to the election campaign as the Liberal Party and the
National Party. We had literally —
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Bassendean, I call you to order for the second time.
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
At the last election we laid out an incredibly detailed set of policies across
a whole range of areas. The Leader of the Opposition can sit back over there in
opposition and watch us deliver, because we are delivering policy commitment
after policy commitment. If he likes, we will give the Leader of the Opposition
a report on what we have achieved already this year—the year of the
election. ''Mr Negativity'' over there—absolute
negativity—lost the election. Labor lost 10 seats in 2008 and another
six in 2013. The Leader of the Opposition got the worst result for the Labor
Party in 100 years. I have one piece of advice for the Leader of the Opposition
—
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Armadale, I call you to order for the third time. You have taken
that for both you and the member for Victoria Park. If there is any more
shouting, you will be ejected from the chamber.
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
My gratuitous advice —
Ms M.M. Quirk :
Yes, it's gratuitous all right.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Girrawheen, I call you to order for the third time.
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
My gratuitous advice to the Leader of the Opposition—because they are
lonely and desperate times when sitting on that side of the chamber—is
this: you lost the election, mate; you lost it. It is about time —
Several members interjected.
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
You lost the election, and you lost it badly. You have had two bad defeats.
What you need to do is get out of the negativity, stop trying to rewrite the
election, do a bit of work and get on with the policy agenda for the next
election, which I remind you is still three and a half years away.
