(1) As at the latest date available to the Minister, for the recovery of Greenough Regional Prison (GRP) what is: (a) The estimated value of destruction and damage; (b) The estimated or budgeted cost of clean up; (c) The expenditure thus far spent on clean up; (d) The estimated or budged cost of rebuilding; and (e) The expenditure thus far spent on rebuilding, and in what units / areas? (2) Have any prisoners been utilised for clean up or rebuilding of GRP: (a) If so, how many and what work has been undertaken; and (b) If not, why not?

The Department of Justice advises that, estimates for 1(a) to (e) are provided as at 17 August 2018:
(1)
(a) The current estimated value of destruction and damage is $2.4m. This is open to variation as works progress.
(b) The estimated cost of the clean-up is $15 845. This cost consists of direct clean-up costs only and excludes repairs and rectification.
(c) The expenditure thus far spent on clean-up is $15 845 and this represents the final cost as the clean-up effort has now concluded.
(d) The estimated cost of rebuilding is $1.4m. This estimate is open to variation as works are progressed.
(e) The expenditure thus far spent on rebuilding is $580 199.
(2) Yes.
(a) A team of up to five Section 95 minimum security prisoners was used to clean the grounds and units for the first two weeks following the incident.
(b) Not applicable.
