I refer the parliamentary secretary to the article in The West Australian on 1 April in which her colleague the Minister for Tourism stated that accounting firm Pitcher Partners had been engaged by the Rottnest Island Authority to manage the Rottnest Hotel for a period of three months, with the option of extending the contract to a maximum of six months. (1) Is the minister now able to inform the House of the cost of employing Pitcher Partners for the initial three-month period? (2) Does the minister intend to initiate a new tender process for the redevelopment of the Rottnest Hotel; and, if so, when? (3) Given that it may take up to two years to finalise any new tender process, who will manage the hotel at the end of this six-month period? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) No. The minister has advised that he understands there to be sufficient flexibility in the contract to vary the service level provided by Pitcher Partners at any time, commensurate with the needs of the Rottnest Island Authority. This of course will impact on the costings. (2) It would be premature to provide an answer to this question prior to the Rottnest Island Taskforce reporting. (3) The RIA resumed management of the hotel as of 1 April 2004. Once the task force reports, consideration will be given to the long-term management of the hotel.
