DEPARTMENT
FOR CHILD PROTECTION AND FAMILY SUPPORT — FITZROY CROSSING
392. Hon STEPHEN DAWSON to the Minister for Child Protection:
I refer to the
Department for Child Protection and Family Support's Fitzroy Crossing
Office.
(1) How many
full-time equivalent staff are allocated to this office and what are the
position designations?
(2) How many of these
positions are currently vacant and which positions are they?
(3) Is there an officer providing the Best
Beginnings program; and, if not, how is the department providing the vital
support needed by mothers of young children, zero to three years, in the
Fitzroy Valley area?
(4) Are budget cuts inflicted by the Barnett
government the real reason why this office does not operate anywhere near full
capacity?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question.
(1) There are 10 FTE allocated to Fitzroy
Crossing. The position details are as follows: senior child protection
worker/senior community child protection worker, level 12SC/psal5, one FTE;
administrative assistant psal2, one FTE; family resource employee, one FTE;
field worker, one FTE; field worker, one FTE; senior child protection worker,
one FTE; team leader child protection, one FTE; Best Beginnings officer, one
FTE; child protection worker parent support, one FTE; and senior caseworker
parent support, one FTE.
(2) Two—a field worker and Best
Beginnings officer. Until recently there were three vacancies; however, one has
recently been filled and this staff member is due to start in two weeks.
(3) The Best Beginnings officer position has
been advertised but is not currently filled. In the interim, the department
will offer an officer a fixed-term contract. Support for mothers and young
children in the area is provided through the department's child-centred
family support program.
(4) Absolutely no.
