479. Hon Michelle Hofmann to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister
for Mental Health:
I refer to the
response to question without notice 100 that the Mental Health Commission is
engaging with the national eSafety Commissioner regarding the risks AI chatbots
pose to children.
(a) What is the commission doing to
combat these risks?
(b) Has the commission developed or
commissioned any advice, resources or education programs for children, parents
or schools regarding AI chatbot use?
(c) If yes to (b), where are these
available?
(d) Will the government introduce any
further safeguards to protect vulnerable young people from harmful AI chatbot
interactions?

(a)–(d) The Mental Health Commission is awaiting
the outcome of work being undertaken by the eSafety Commissioner in relation to
AI chatbots that will inform future activity.
