I thank the member for some notice of this question on behalf of Hon Simon O’Brien. (1)-(2) The rail alignment option was tabled in Parliament by Mr McRae in his capacity as the member for Riverton for the information of other members and, therefore, did not require prior consultation with the Local Impacts Committee or local government authorities. Indeed, in addition to informing other members, Mr McRae’s other objective was to stimulate and encourage discussion regarding this very important issue among key stakeholders, such as the Local Impacts Committee and local government, as well as the wider community. (3)-(4) In view of the transport significance and strong community interest in this issue, all possibilities need to be thoroughly examined for the future. The Government will continue to examine all viable alternative routes, including the rail alignment option supported by Mr McRae.
