Does the Leader of the House have an answer to a question about the established number of prison officers at Karnet Prison Farm? Hon Kim Chance : I have just found the answer to the Leader of the Opposition’s question! The PRESIDENT : The Leader of the House seems to be flush with answers at the moment, so he can give two! Hon PETER FOSS : My question is - (1) What was the - (a) established; (b) usual; (c) maximum; and (d) minimum number of officers on duty at night at each of Karnet Prison Farm and Wooroloo Prison Farm over the past six months? (2) If the number in any of the answers to (1)(b), (c) or (d) is less than the answer to (a), what is the reason for such deficiency? (3) If there is no established number of officers for duty at night at Karnet Prison Farm and Wooroloo Prison Farm, on what basis has the department arrived at the number that have been rostered, and is the number sufficient to allow those officers to patrol the prisons at night? I thank Hon Peter Foss for some notice of his question, to which the Department of Justice has provided the following advice - (1) It is considered that the provision of the requested information detailing the number of prison officers on duty at any given time at any prison could jeopardise the management, control and security of those facilities. On this basis, I am not willing to provide this information in this forum. That response is consistent with the answers provided by members opposite to similar questions when they were on this side of the house. (2)-(3) Not applicable. (4) The Karnet Prison Farm muster at 17 March 2005 was 159. However, with regard to parts (a) and (b) of this question, detailed prisoner census tables are available only for the last day of each month. The detailed prisoner census data for the last day of March 2005 is not currently available. Accordingly, at 28 February 2005 the Karnet Prison Farm muster was 160. (a) At 28 February 2005, 59 prisoners at Karnet Prison Farm had a sex offence attached to their current term of imprisonment. (b) At 28 February 2005, 50 prisoners at Karnet Prison Farm had more than 12 months to serve until their calculated earliest possible release date. (5) (a) 55; and (b) five.

number of officers on duty at night at each of Karnet Prison Farm and Wooroloo Prison Farm over the past six months?
(3) If there is no established number of officers for duty at night at Karnet Prison Farm and Wooroloo Prison Farm, on what basis has the department arrived at the number that have been rostered, and is the number sufficient to allow those officers to patrol the prisons at night? (4) What was the Karnet Prison Farm muster at Thursday, 17 March 2005, and of those - (a) how many prisoners were sex offenders; and (b) how many prisoners had more than 12 months of their sentence to serve? (5) What was the total number of - (a) male; and (b) female prison officers assigned to Karnet Prison Farm at 17 March 2005? Hon KIM CHANCE replied: I thank Hon Peter Foss for some notice of his question, to which the Department of Justice has provided the following advice - (1) It is considered that the provision of the requested information detailing the number of prison officers on duty at any given time at any prison could jeopardise the management, control and security of those facilities.
