This list is therefore confined to other cases in which the Department for Community Development has been a party, either in its own right or on behalf of a child in its care. · A person is pursuing a claim in the District Court for damages arising from a request for assistance in relation to an elderly relative. The claim was struck out in 1997 but the plaintiff is seeking to appeal that decision out of time. · Two young people (former wards) are seeking damages in the Supreme Court for abuse sustained while in care. · Foster carers are pursuing an action in the Supreme Court regarding the placement of a ward. · Two Local Court and one Supreme Court proceedings in relation to child care licensing issues. · Supreme Court proceedings on behalf of wards under the Inheritance (Family and Dependents Provision) Act 1972 to seek a fairer apportionment of a deceased estate. · District Court proceedings on behalf of a ward in relation to a medical procedure. · A number of criminal injuries compensation matters are currently or have been before the Assessor of Criminal Injuries Compensation or District Court, seeking compensation for wards as a result of an injury or offence which occurred prior to them coming into Departmental care. · The Department has been involved in a number of restraining order proceedings primarily on behalf of children. · Western Australian Industrial Appeal Court proceedings wherein the Director General of the Department for Community Development was the named respondent in an appeal by the Civil Service Association.
