HEALTH ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW COMMITTEE
Will the minister provide the House with some information about the Health Administrative Review Committee announced last week? Mr KUCERA

AnswerView source ↗

The Government has established the Health Administrative Review Committee to advise me as minister on the appropriate administrative structure for the Western Australian public health system, following the disbanding of the extra layer of bureaucracy called the Metropolitan Health Service Board. The committee will be chaired by Mr Michael Daube, the chief executive officer of the Cancer Foundation, and includes: Patricia Fowler, President of the Australian Nursing Federation, and a level 1 nurse - we do listen; Dr Brian Lloyd, Acting Director of Medical Services at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital; Professor Fiona Stanley - one of our most eminent professors - Director of the TVW Telethon Child Health Research Institute; Dr Simon Towler, President of the Australian Medical Association (WA) and Director of the Emergency Department at Royal Perth Hospital; Professor Lance Twomey, Vice-Chancellor of Curtin University - again, another eminent person; and David Inglis, Principal Policy Adviser to the Minister for Health. The committee has met for the first time. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER: Order! Mr KUCERA: The review will not rely on or use consultants but will be guided by people who have a real knowledge of the Western Australian public health system and the needs and aspirations of the Western Australian community. I applaud the members of the committee and I am pleased to work with a group of eminent Western Australians who might help us sort out some of the mess that the Government has inherited.
