I refer to the Minister’s replies to questions on notice 2000
and 2001, and I ask: (a) is the Minister aware that the Environmental Protection Authority, in its System
Six report (1983), recommended at least 14 regional parks be established to
protect the flora, fauna and landscapes of the Perth and Peel regions; (b) why have no further regional parks been established
in the Perth and Peel regions since the first eight that were established in
1997; (c) is the Minister aware that extensive planning has
been done for a further five regional parks, including Peel, East Wanneroo,
Lower Serpentine, Yule Brook and Helena Valley; and (d) why have these additional regional parks not been
established despite the Government’s commitment in 1984 to implement the System
Six recommendations?

a-d. The Cook Labor Government is committed to expanding Western Australia’s conservation estate. In 2019, we announced a plan to create five million hectares of new national and marine parks and conservation reserves across Western Australia. To date, 3.4 million hectares has been created. This is the largest expansion to the conservation estate in the state’s history and requires significant agency resources.
