METRONET — ARMADALE
RAIL LINE — ELEVATED
1471. Hon LOUISE KINGSTON to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to the recent announcement
of a seven-kilometre park under the elevated Metronet Armadale line.
(1) What is the estimated cost of
this project?
(2) Recent media quoted the Minister for Transport
labelling the cost to add additional lanes to Albany Highway as ''very
significant''. How many overtaking lanes on Albany Highway could have
been funded for the same cost?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. I provide the following response on behalf of the
representing minister.
(1)–(2) The
new community spaces underneath the new elevated rail form part of the project
budget for the Victoria Park–Canning level crossing removal program.
The Minister for Transport was quoted regarding the full duplication of Albany
Highway, not two additional overtaking lanes.
The
WA Labor government has undertaken several significant upgrades on Albany
Highway since coming to office,
including the upgrade of more than 260 kilometres of highway as part of the
regional road safety program, the $15.2 million replacement of the
Hotham River Bridge and the delivery of several overtaking lanes.
It should be noted that royalties for
regions has been used to fund many new parks and recreation spaces across
regional WA, including the $5 million All Ages Playground in Katanning.
