I refer the minister to his reply to question without notice 43 given in this chamber on 5 April. (1) Does the minister’s reply to (1) indicate that there was no due diligence work undertaken by government officials on Fortescue Metals Group’s proposal prior to signing the state agreement with the company? (2) If not, will the minister provide some detailed information on the extent of due diligence undertaken by the government prior to signing the agreement? Hon KEN TRAVERS

I have been advised that - (1) No. (2) The state government was aware of the status of the project’s prefeasibility investigations, exploration programs, planning of rail and port infrastructure, government approvals and arrangements with possible contractors and iron ore buyers.
