The Minister for Energy has been provided with the following response
(1) Yes.
(2) Funding for the Underground Power Program occurs via a series of cash calls made on each of the funding entities. The funds are then allocated as appropriate to each underground power project as it occurs. The schedule of future underground projects is by necessity reasonably flexible. Because of this, the budget for a particular financial year does not necessarily correspond to specific projects; it is allocated to projects as and when proposals are approved and implemented.
In the current financial year of 2008-09, the following Underground Power projects have been or are being implemented (note that projects may span more than one financial year):
Major Residential Projects (MRPs):
· Wembley Downs (City of Stirling);
· Como East (City of South Perth);
· Mount Pleasant (City of Melville); and
· Palm Beach (City of Rockingham).
Localised Enhancement Projects (LEPs):
· Waroona (Shire of Waroona); and
· Toodyay (Shire of Toodyay).
(3) In the next financial year (2009-10), the following proposals are scheduled to begin implementation, subject to meeting the requirements of the Detailed Proposal Stage (note that scheduling is still flexible):
Major Residential Projects (MRPs):
· Wilson West (City of Canning)
· Maddington (City of Gosnells); and
· Attadale South (City of Melville).
Localised Enhancement Projects (LEPs):
· Bunbury (City of Bunbury);
· Brunswick Junction (Shire of Harvey)
· Cowaramup (Shire of Augusta/Margaret River); and
· Albany Hwy, Victoria Park (Town of Victoria Park).
(4) All projects for the next financial year will be Round Four projects. All submissions for Round Four of the Program have been received and assessed. There will be no further submissions for proposals for implementation in 2009-10. However, Round Five of the Program has been committed to and the Office of Energy will send local governments the Guidelines for Round Five later this year. Local governments may then submit Expressions of Interest for proposal areas they would like considered for underground power. From these Expressions of Interest, a shortlist will be determined before the end of 2010. Funding for Round Five of the Underground Power Program will begin in the financial year 2011-12.
