STATE BUDGET 2012–13
— COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES
323. Hon LINDA SAVAGE to the minister representing the
Minister for Health:
I refer to the additional $58.5 million over four years in
the 2012–13 budget to implement an expansion of community health
services across Western Australia through the not-for-profit sector and the
announcement that there will be approximately 100 additional child health
nurses.
(1) Will there
be at least an additional 25 child health nurses employed in 2012–13;
and, if not, what will be the minimum number of additional child health nurses
employed?
(2) How many
additional child health nurses employed in 2012–13 will be employed
directly by the Department of Health and how many will be employed by the
not-for-profit sector?
(3) If a
non-government agency is to employ child health nurses directly, has the
non-government agency been identified, what process was involved and what are
the names of the agencies identified?
(4) Was there or
will there be any community consultation with the not-for-profit sector to
implement the expansion of community health services; and, if so, what form did
it or will it take?
(5) Can the
minister explain the discrepancy between the ''2012–13 Budget at
a glance'' document, which states that there will be $59 million over
four years for non-government organisations to hire 100 additional community
health nurses, and the budget papers, which state that there will be only an
additional $58.5 million?

I thank the member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(3)
It is yet to be determined how many child health nurses will be employed in
2012–13. The state government will commence employing additional staff
from 1 July and will also work with the non-government sector in the procurement
of additional staff. Standard government procurement processes for staff
recruitment will be applied and suitable agencies will be identified as part of
this process.
(4) Community
consultations planned with the non-government sector are due to commence in
June 2012.
(5) The total of
$59 million to employ 100 additional community health nurses over four years
was the rounded-up total. The total of $58.5 million is correct.
