LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS — BUSHFIRE RISK
1158. Hon ALANNA CLOHESY to the minister representing the
Minister for Environment:
I ask this question on behalf of Hon Ljiljanna Ravlich, who is away from the

Environment advise the local government areas that, from a Department of Parks

I thank the member for some notice
of this question.
The Department of Parks and Wildlife
is responsible for all aspects of fire management on lands for which it has
management responsibility—for example, national parks, state forest and
nature reserves. The department is responsible for fire prevention on
unallocated crown lands and unmanaged reserves outside designated town sites.
It is the responsibility of the relevant local government authority to manage
fuel loads for lands that they manage as part of their individual mitigation
programs. The department continues to work closely with local governments and
the Department of Fire and Emergency Services on local bushfire mitigation
strategies.
