I thank the member for some notice of the question. (1)-(3) The Department of Education and Training has implemented a classroom first strategy and is cognisant of the possibility that some teachers working in head office, district offices and the Curriculum Council may need to return to the classroom. A decision on how many qualified teachers will be required to return to the classroom is still under consideration and will be strongly influenced by the number of resignations and retirements which are yet to occur and which traditionally occur at the end of the school year. In addition, the vacancies that may arise in schools can be filled only by teachers who have the training and skills set to match the requirements of the vacancy.
