(1) Since closure of the South Fremantle landfill a number of studies have been carried out to assess the former landfill site, including risk assessment of landfill gases.
Remediation of the former South Fremantle landfill site was carried out prior to construction of the Fremantle Village and Caravan Park development. The construction techniques employed were designed to ensure build up of methane gas did not become an explosive risk.
No. The Department of Health would not support people living on any unremediated former landfill sites. This is not the case in the Fremantle Village situation where remediation was carried out to remove some waste material prior to construction.
