On behalf of the Minister for Regional Development, I thank the honourable Deputy Leader of the Opposition for providing some notice of the question. (1) There are 50 police officers in each unit. (2) The PRU and SRU come within the metropolitan regional support division, with line management being to a single inspector under the divisional superintendent. The units otherwise operate as separate operational units, each managed by a senior sergeant as the officer in charge. (3) There were 50 police officers. (4) The southern police rail unit commenced operations from Monday, 13 August 2007, providing general duties, front-line support and targeted operations in the south metropolitan police district prior to the Perth-Mandurah rail network opening later in the year. (5) The Perth rail unit is based at the Perth railway station. The southern police rail unit is currently in leased premises situated diagonally opposite the Rockingham Police Station at 85 McNicholl Street on the corner of Chalgrove Avenue, Rockingham. The SRU will move to its new accommodation at the Rockingham railway station on the completion of that building.
