MANAGEMENT PLANS
1032. Hon COLIN de GRUSSA to the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Environment:
I refer to the
proposed south coast marine park.
(1) Has the state
government engaged a consultant to undertake a socio-economic impact assessment
based on the draft indicative management plans for the proposed marine park?
(2) If yes to (1)

(a) when will the
assessment be completed;
(b) will the
assessment be released with the draft IMPs during the public comment process;
and, if not, why not; and
(c) will the assessment
rely on existing data or information, or utilise bespoke analysis data
commissioned as part of the assessment?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. On behalf of the Minister for Environment, I provide
the following answer.
(1)–(2) The
Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions has engaged a consultant
to undertake a socio-economic evaluation to provide a high level socio-economic
profile of the south coast region and draw on previous studies to outline the
socio-economic impacts of the establishment of marine parks in Australia. A
final version of the report is being finalised and will then be provided to
government.
