355. Hon AMBER-JADE SANDERSON to the Attorney General representing the Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to reports of breaches of conditions of release by
dangerous sex offenders who are being monitored by GPS tracking devices.
(1) How many
dangerous sex offenders being tracked by GPS have breached their conditions of
release in the past 12 months?
(2) For each of the offenders in (1) —
(a) on how many occasions did they
breach their conditions; and
(b) have they been re-incarcerated
as a result of the breach?

the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) Between 20
May 2013, when GPS tracking commenced, and 2 April 2014, seven dangerous sexual
offenders were found by the courts to have breached their condition of release.
(2) (a) Dangerous
sexual offender 1, one breach; dangerous sexual offender 2, 10 breaches;
dangerous sexual offender 3, two breaches; dangerous sexual offender 4, nine
breaches; dangerous sexual offender 5, six breaches; dangerous sexual offender
6, four breaches; and dangerous sexual offender 7, one breach.
(b) Of the
seven offenders, two have been re-incarcerated. The decision to return
offenders to custody is made by the judiciary.
