I
refer to the answer to Question on Notice No. 3971 that the $32.4 million in
savings from the new WA Museum budget has not been re-allocated within the
Culture and the Arts portfolio, and ask: (a) why
not; (b) why
was some of the money not used to fund the renovations to His Majesty’s Theatre
instead of new monies being sourced; (c) is
there an updated final cost of construction of the new WA Museum: (i) if
yes, what is the updated cost; (d) when
will the new WA Museum be completed; and (e) is

(a) As stated in the answer to Question on Notice No. 3971, the $32.4 million savings from the New Museum project has not been re-allocated within the Culture and the Arts portfolio.  This is because Parliament appropriates the capital funds from the Consolidated Account for specific line items listed in the Asset Investment Program in the State Budget Papers.
(b) Any savings returned from the New Museum project would be returned to the Consolidated Account.  Similarly any new project would be funded from the Consolidated Account.
(c) Yes
(i)  The total budget for the new museum project is $395.9 million.
(d) The new museum is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2020.
(e) A date for opening will be set closer to 2020.
