Responded by
Minister for Child Protection
Response time
29 days
(1) 30 April 2009: 578 vehicles
19 March 2010: 578 vehicles
(2) Please refer to part (1)
(3) No reduction was required, as the Department was approved to reduce the cost of its fleet in lieu of reducing the number of the fleet.
Strategies to reduce fleet cost include:
- Centralising fleet management whereby all requests for the replacement of vehicles are to be approved centrally to ensure the lowest cost option is chosen each time a vehicle is replaced. The Director General endorses all vehicle replacements and acquisitions.
- The replacement of one-third of four-wheel-drive vehicles in country areas with lower cost sedans and the replacement of six cylinder vehicles with lower cost four cylinder alternatives across the State.
- The abolition of home garaging to all areas, wherever possible.
(4 - 5) Not applicable
