On behalf of the Leader of the House, I thank Hon Barry House for some notice of this question. The Minister for Science and Innovation has provided the following response - (1) The utilisation of the $72 million for science and innovation initiatives announced in the May 2006 Budget Statements is under consideration. The $72 million has been allocated across 2006-07 and the three out years of the budget cycle. (2) The Minister for Health has advised that the two new research centres will be developed by the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research on health campus land that will be leased to it. The state government plans to provide a $25 million contribution towards the building of each project, with the balance of the capital funding expected to come from universities - the University of Western Australia has already committed $25 million to each centre - the commonwealth government and private contributors.
