WOODSIDE ENERGY —
PILBARA JOBS
814. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Premier:
I refer to positions currently
advertised on Woodside Energy's Karratha local jobs portal—when
launched by the member for Pilbara, he said it was the happiest day of his life—which
include roles at McDonalds, as air-conditioning mechanics, as a refrigeration
technician and as a dishwasher.
(1) Is the
Premier satisfied that out of the 298 jobs listed on the site, only three offer
direct employment at Woodside?
(2) Does the
Premier believe Woodside is meeting its obligations under the local
participation plan that he and the Minister for Lands signed in May this year
in relation to boosting employees from the Pilbara before considering fly in,
fly out workers?

(1)–(2) Where
are the Nationals WA? Speaking about people not working—where are the
Nationals? Three-fifths of the National Party does not show up to Parliament! I
think that is actually a story. Look at the National Party nationally.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members!
Mr M. McGOWAN : They are out
there. I do not know what the member has to say about this, but look at what
they are doing with Barnaby Joyce and poor old Michael McCormack—answer
it!
Point of Order
Mr D.T. REDMAN : A classic
question of relevance—I ask you to bring the Premier back to task.
The SPEAKER : I am sure the
Premier will get back to task.
Questions without Notice Resumed
Mr M. McGOWAN : The question
was about jobs. I am pretty sure Woodside would not want to employ any National
Party members of Parliament because they do not work, and nationally they are
in complete disarray with moves now to knock off Michael McCormack with that
disgrace Barnaby Joyce.
We set up the jobs portal and I understand
that Woodside will be advertising local jobs on the portal when they become
available, but it has been opened up more broadly for other occupations to be
advertised on the portal. I was pleased to hear that the member said there were
other jobs in hospitality—dishwashing and the like.
Mr R.S. Love interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Moore, I call you to order for the first time.
Mr M. McGOWAN : The member for
Moore might be a rich farmer, but I actually respect people who work in
hospitality and who do those difficult jobs. Once upon a time, I washed dishes
in Pizza Hut. It was hard, it was long hours and there were lots of demands. I actually
respect people who do that work in towns like Karratha and I think the member
ought to show a little bit of respect for them.
