MUSEUM — RELOCATION
Given that most hotels are located in the Perth central business district and that the existing Perth Cultural Centre museum is in far closer proximity to both a railway station, a busport, numerous existing car parks and is much easier for pedestrians to access than the East Perth museum site, I ask — (1) On what basis is it argued that the proposed East Perth site is easily accessible? (2) If the answer to (1) is proposed car parking on the new site, why is this government a supporter of policy to further develop rail and increased residential density enabling pedestrian access? Hon ADELE FARINA

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. The minister has provided the following answer. (1)-(2) The East Perth site is accessible because the area is serviced by rail and bus routes. The Public Transport Authority has plans for a covered pedestrian bridge with universal lifts on East Parade at East Perth train station to increase accessibility. As with all site development, there will also be parking available for a range of visitor and delivery vehicles, and, in particular, spaces for coaches to cater for schools and other group transport.
