I have a supplementary question. What is the minister’s contingency plan? Mr E.S. RIPPER

AnswerView source ↗

Western Power managers have a range of mechanisms in place. Obviously, coal-fired plant is very important in the solution. I want the member for Collie to take that back to his community. Coal-fired plant is very important whenever there is a gas shortage on the pipeline courtesy of the Leader of the Opposition’s policy decisions. There will be an increased use of coal-fired plant and an increased contribution from independent power producers. Western Power also engages in fuel swap arrangements with private sector organisations to maximise electricity generation. I inform the Leader of the National Party that these people are very skilful. I hope he has more confidence in them than does the Leader of the Opposition.
