STATE BUDGET 2013–14 — DEPARTMENT
OF EDUCATION
385. Hon SUE ELLERY to the Minister for Education:
I note in today's budget under ''Spending
Changes'' that there is an allocation of some $282 million over three years
to be spent on public sector workforce reform within the Department of
Education.
(1) Can the minister
confirm that that is money allocated for both voluntary and involuntary
redundancies?
(2) What can
the minister tell us about the ballpark figure for how many redundancies that
$282 million is expected to pay for; and what category of staff are likely to
face involuntary redundancies?

I thank the member for the question.
(1)–(2)
I will make some comments about staffing in the next couple of weeks. That will
include numbers, where we are going across the board and also our response to
Teese, which is a new funding model across the board. As I said when I released
the Teese report, the current funding model is inefficient and the stage
weights themselves just do not provide for the best outcome; they are heavily
weighted for the senior school level of staff. As I said, I will make some
comments across the board for all staff in the next couple of weeks.
