(1) In Newman, expectant mothers currently have access to regular checkups through a shared care model with General Practitioners and antenatal and postnatal services are provided by the WA Country Health Service (WACHS) - Pilbara.
Community consultation in regards to health services provided by WACHS - Pilbara was undertaken in August 2010. At that time the community expressed a need for increased antenatal and post natal services which included services such as positive parenting, a lactation consultant, more child health clinic times and counselling support.
(2) The WACHS - Pilbara Inland Operations Manager and WACHS - Pilbara Director of Population Health are working with the Newman Health Advisory Group and community members to develop a model to meet service requests that includes a range of antenatal and postnatal services which includes post natal checkups.
